PERGOLA PROS · BIOCLIMATIC
Bioclimatic Pergola Rooms
At Pergola Pros, the bioclimatic room is the complete enclosure: a substantial made-to-measure aluminium structure, a controllable roof and sliding glass walls. The roof manages conditions above you; the glass closes the exposed sides to create a defined room.

The roof is only one part
The pergola market often uses “bioclimatic” for an adjustable louvred roof on its own. We describe that component plainly as a motorised louvred roof: open it for light and airflow, angle it for shade, or close it over the space. Rain that lands on the closed louvres is carried into drainage integrated within the beams and posts.
Add sliding glass walls and the open pergola becomes an enclosed bioclimatic room. You can open the glass when the weather is settled and close the exposed sides when wind or rain moves across the garden. Screens, lighting and heating can also be specified around how the room will be used.
Comfort you can adjust
Open the louvres on a still, sunny morning for light and a through-breeze; tilt them to take the edge off the midday sun; close them as cloud rolls in and stay dry underneath. You're not choosing one fixed setting when the pergola is installed — you're adjusting it, day to day and hour to hour, to suit how you're using the space.
The structure beneath the glass matters
Sliding glass is not a shortcut that turns every pergola into the same room. The enclosure depends on the frame it is fitted to, the spans, drainage, foundations, fixings and alignment. We specify the glass with the supporting structure so the finished room is considered as one system.
This is also why the aluminium specification affects price. Extruded aluminium is a major physical cost in a substantial structure. Our Retractable uses 200 × 200 × 3.0 mm posts: twice the face width and nearly twice the wall thickness of the 100 × 100 × 1.6 mm UK example in our published comparison. The Platinum uses 150 × 150 × 2.8 mm posts in the harder 6063-T6 temper. A single measurement does not prove the quality of a whole structure, but these figures make clear why products sharing the word “pergola” can belong to different price categories.

Which models can become a bioclimatic room
Our Gold and Platinum have adjustable louvred roofs with integrated drainage. The Retractable also lets the roof stack away for open sky. Sliding glass walls can be specified with all three models, subject to the final configuration. Every model is motorised for remote control, and the detailed specification confirms the controls and accessories supplied.
Built for British weather
We do not publish a wind or snow rating, and our FAQ explains why. Your quotation includes a foundation specification for your own site, because a pergola is only as strong as the base it stands on.
A serious room has a serious budget
Most made-to-measure structures cost £8,000–£20,000 supplied. Sliding glass, other accessories and HIAB crane delivery are quoted separately. Send approximate dimensions, photographs and the way you want to use the room. We first provide an initial budget estimate; if it suits your budget, we then prepare the detailed specification, CAD drawings and firm written quotation.
Watertight with the louvres closed — and it stays that way if it is maintained. Rain drains through channels in the blades and down inside the posts, so leaves and debris left to build up will hold water back. Keep the blades, gutters and drainage clear, and check the blade seals as part of routine care. Our Stewardship Program sets out what to do and when.
